Welling, OK

Welling is an unincorporated Cherokee County community about four miles southeast of Tahlequah, with the Illinois River two miles west and the north end of Tenkiller Ferry Lake three miles south. That places the community in a water-rich corner of eastern Oklahoma, between the Cherokee Nation capital and the lake country around the Illinois River. Roads here lead through wooded hills and rural properties toward Tahlequah, the river, and the reservoir.

The Heart o' Hills camp and conference center gives Welling a recognizable institution and a steady reason for visitors and groups to use the area. The Illinois River and Tenkiller Lake broaden the local recreation map, while Cherokee County roads connect residents to schools, shopping, and services in Tahlequah.
