About West Liberty

West Liberty is an Ohio County town in the Wheeling metro, with West Liberty University taking up a large part of the identity. The town got its name during the American Revolution and served as Ohio County's seat from 1777 to 1797, when the area was still part of Virginia. The university began as West Liberty Academy in 1837, making the campus older than the state itself. West Liberty is northern West Virginia in a college-and-Revolutionary-history shape.
