West Mayfield, PA

West Mayfield is a Beaver County borough on the north side of the Pittsburgh metro, tucked among Big Beaver, Beaver Falls, White Township, and Chippewa. Its history is a mix of College Hill, canal work, and industry. John Edwards, one of the early local figures, worked on the canal along the Beaver River; by the late 1890s the Pennsylvania Railroad had a station here, and Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products opened in 1899. Those details give the borough both hillside roads and old industrial connections.

Today the clearest local landmark is The Hollow, West Mayfield’s community park along Walnut Bottom Run. It has three ballfields, basketball and volleyball areas, picnic shelters, a playground, and the stream that eventually reaches the Beaver River. Blackhawk School District serves the borough, and the park is the kind of place that makes the map make sense: school, stream, fields, and neighborhoods gathered on the Beaver Falls side of the county. West Mayfield is small, but its local bearings are unusually easy to name.
