West Salem, OH

West Salem began as a surveyed village in 1834 and was incorporated in 1865, giving it a long, settled presence in Wayne County. The place grew among farm roads west of Wooster, with a compact center and a pattern of homes, churches, shops, and civic buildings that still makes the village easy to recognize as a community of its own. The branch of the Wayne County Public Library adds a practical meeting point, while Drake Park gives residents room for outdoor time, games, and town gatherings.

These days West Salem balances village services with the working countryside around it.
