Westlake Village, CA

The name Westlake Village refers both to an incorporated Los Angeles County city and to a larger master-planned community that crosses into Thousand Oaks in Ventura County. The city, incorporated in 1981, occupies 5.19 square miles on the county line; its 2020 population was 8,029. Westlake Lake sits at the center of the older development pattern, and neighborhood governance still reflects those planned origins. Every city neighborhood except Southridge Trails has a homeowners association whose covenants operate alongside municipal rules. City facilities create a separate network of shared destinations. The 18-acre Westlake Village Community Park devotes eight acres to lighted synthetic fields and also includes a walking and jogging path, skate park, basketball and sand-volleyball courts, fitness equipment, picnic areas, two playgrounds, and a 60,000-square-foot YMCA facility. The surrounding foothills are part of daily recreation as well as the view. Wishbone Trail climbs above Community Park, and nearby systems extend into Chesebro Canyon, Malibu Creek State Park, Pentachaeta Trail, and Wildwood Park.

Westlake Village maintains seven parks, while a partnership with the Conejo Recreation and Park District supplies seasonal camps and classes; the city's 2026 schedule also placed free concerts, movies, a parade, and a festival at Berniece Bennett Park and the Civic Center. Westlake Village Library adds study rooms, children's and teen areas, public computers, digital collections, and weekday and Saturday hours under a joint city-county agreement. The city provides dial-a-ride service for older and disabled residents, and Metro's Line 161 links the area with Thousand Oaks and Canoga Station. The practical geography is therefore wider than the city boundary: trails and classes use Conejo Valley partnerships, the bus crosses the county line, and the library operates with Los Angeles County.
