Westminster, TX

Westminster is an unincorporated Collin County community at FM 3133 and FM 2862, about 12 miles northeast of McKinney. The 2020 census counted 1,035 residents. It began as Seven Points in 1860, grew to include nearby Prospect and Graybill, and changed names after a private school became Westminster College in the 1890s. A post office opened in 1899, and the community incorporated in 1914 before losing its city charter in 2005.

Schooling made the town's early map. The academy operated in a substantial building, and after its school years ended, the building became the Westminster Baptist Church. The community also served as a cotton market and farm-trade center in the early twentieth century, though rail service ended in 1920 and major lines bypassed it. Today the intersection, churches, former school buildings, and nearby Anna Independent School District connect Westminster to the northeast Collin County road network. It remains a named community whose history is written in school, church, and crossroads.
