Weston, ID

Weston is a small Franklin County city on the west side of the Bear River, where the old name Westtown made the map plain. Settlers arrived in 1865, and the community became Weston as it grew across the river from the valley’s earlier settlements. The river was both a boundary and a practical problem—one reason the place developed as its own small center instead of simply becoming an extension of Preston. Franklin County’s history page still places Weston in the southeast corner of the county, among the fields and roads of Cache Valley.

That early setting remains the useful way to read Weston. The Franklin County Historical Society’s account remembers the river, weather, rattlesnakes, crickets, and grasshoppers as part of the first settlers’ daily challenges, while a local history held by the University of Idaho follows the city’s story through 1929. There is no need to dress the place up: Weston’s character comes from a crossing, a farming valley, and a small community that learned to work with the river instead of pretending it was not there.
