Westville, OK

Westville is an Adair County town in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, set at the junction of U.S. Highways 59 and 62. Stilwell, the county seat, is thirteen miles south, and Siloam Springs is about fifteen miles north. Before Oklahoma statehood, Westville sat in the Going Snake District of the Cherokee Nation. The town was founded in 1895 as the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad reached the area, and a second line arrived in 1902. Rail connections drew stores, newspapers, and families into the town, which became a regional crossroads even after the second line disappeared.

Westville's current map is led by its schools and highways. Westville Public Schools runs elementary, middle, and high school campuses, with the Yellowjackets giving the town a shared calendar. The local library keeps Adair County newspapers and history books alongside its regular services. Stilwell remains the county government center, but Westville's north-south highway junction ties it to farms, the Cherokee Nation region, and Arkansas towns across the state line. It is an Oklahoma town with a railroad beginning and a school-centered present.
