White House sits about 22 miles north of downtown Nashville, right along the border of Robertson and Sumner counties. It offers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere with an easy commute down Interstate 65. The older part of town centers along Highway 31W, while newer shopping centers, restaurants, and subdivisions cluster toward the interstate. The city owes its name to an actual white house built in 1829. Back when Highway 31W was a busy stagecoach turnpike between Louisville and Nashville, a settler named Richard Stone Wilks built a two-story inn and painted it white. In an era when most buildings were left as raw timber, the bright white tavern stood out vividly, and stagecoach drivers quickly began calling the stop the White House. The original structure came down in the 1950s during road widenings, but the community built an authentic replica in 1986. Today, it houses the White House Inn Museum, featuring exhibits on stagecoach travel, pioneer life, and local history.

Day-to-day activities center around the town's connected park system near Highway 76. Municipal Park features playgrounds, baseball fields, a dog park, and disc golf, while the adjacent civic complex includes an amphitheater, a splash pad, and an indoor recreation center. The paved Honey Run Creek Greenway links these areas together, offering scenic trails for walking, running, and biking away from traffic. Commuters enjoy a straightforward drive into Nashville along I-65, though the interchange at Highway 76 can get congested during rush hours.
