Whitecone, AZ

Whitecone is a small, quiet community in the high desert of the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona. Sitting at an elevation of around 6,000 feet, the area features wide-open landscapes, big skies, and a spread-out population of fewer than 800 residents. Its Navajo name, Be'ak'id Baa'oogeed, reflects deep local history, tracing back to the early trading post days when wells were dug near livestock ponds.

The White Cone Chapter House serves as the primary gathering place for the community, hosting regular meetings, senior programs, and local services. State Route 77 runs directly through town, giving residents a straightforward route south to Holbrook for larger stores and healthcare or north toward Second Mesa. Local children attend schools in nearby districts like Cedar Unified, and daily life is shaped by family ranches, quiet open spaces, and strong cultural traditions.
