Whitney, NV

Whitney is an unincorporated town administered by Clark County in the eastern Las Vegas Valley. The population of the Whitney census-designated place grew from 38,585 in 2010 to 49,061 in 2020 across 6.81 square miles. The community traces its modern development to the Hoover Dam era: construction of Boulder Highway opened the area, Stowell E. Whitney’s dairy ranch was subdivided in 1931, and a post office followed in 1932. The town was called East Las Vegas from October 1958 to August 1993 before reverting to Whitney. Sam Boyd Stadium opened there in 1971 and served as UNLV football’s home for nearly 50 years; ownership of the stadium site transferred from UNLV to Clark County in June 2025.
