About Wilberforce
Wilberforce is a Greene County census-designated place built around two historically Black universities. Wilberforce University was founded in 1856, and Central State University grew from the same local story before becoming a separate public institution. The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center adds an exhibit space beside the campuses, keeping the area's history in the place where it was made. Xenia borders the community to the southwest, but Wilberforce has its own distinct map of university grounds, Payne Theological Seminary, museum, and roads through central Greene County. Wilberforce is a small Ohio place where education and Black institutional history share the same streets.
