Willapa, WA

Tucked into the lush river valley just east of Raymond, Willapa is a quiet, close-knit rural community in southwest Washington. Home to around two hundred residents, it offers a peaceful slice of Pacific County surrounded by dense evergreen hills and winding waterways. The area takes its name from the indigenous Willapa people and got its start as an 1850s river settlement originally known as Woodard’s Landing.

Life here has always been tied to the water. In the late 19th century, steamboats from Portland delivered passengers and supplies right to local docks, though neighboring Raymond and South Bend eventually grew into the area’s primary commercial hubs. Today, State Route 6 winds gently through the valley, giving locals a quick drive into town for groceries and dining while leaving Willapa itself calm, scenic, and deeply connected to the surrounding countryside.
