About Willards

Willards is a Wicomico County town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, laid out around a late-nineteenth-century railroad stop. Local tradition says storekeeper Ebenezer Davis promised to name the place for railroad officer Willard Thomson if Thomson built a depot; the station was officially called Willards in 1895. That first railroad depot later became the town post office. Willards incorporated in 1906 and again under a 1927 charter. It is a small Shore town whose name, town hall, and street plan all grew out of a railroad bargain.
