About Williston
Williston is a Caroline County hamlet on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, squeezed between Maryland 16 and the Choptank River. It began as Potter’s Landing, named for Zabdiel Potter, the first resident; Potter Hall, his home, remains on the National Register. The village also carries a mill story: Williston Mill Historic District is part of the county’s historic map. That gives Williston a neat local contrast—river landing, old house, and mill country in a place that never needed city limits to have a strong identity. Williston is Eastern Shore Maryland in a short stretch between highway and river, with its oldest names still attached to the landscape.
