About Willow Creek

Willow Creek is a Humboldt County CDP of 1,720 residents in the 2020 census, set where State Routes 299 and 96 meet the Trinity River in the Klamath-Trinity region. The community sits well inland from Eureka, with mountain roads doing as much to shape daily life as the river. The community lies in the homelands of the Tsnungwe and South Fork Hupa people, and its later history includes Chinese laborers who worked in mining and lumber camps and a regional identity built around the China Flat Museum’s Bigfoot collection. Bigfoot is the town’s best-known public story, alongside the river, the museum, and the annual gathering that carries its name.

Bigfoot Daze returns each year to Veterans Park with a parade, vendors, music, contests, softball, and horseshoes; recent park work added a bike park and completed skatepark. The China Flat Museum also carries regional history and a Native Room exhibit, while Community Commons and nearby Six Rivers National Forest give the town civic and outdoor spaces. The local scoop is a mountain service community that uses one playful legend to draw attention, then backs it up with a real museum, annual event, river access, and volunteer network.
