Willow River, MN

Originally an Ojibwe encampment and later an 1850s stagecoach stop on the military road to Duluth, Willow River grew into a logging hub once the railroad arrived in the 1870s. While the busy lumber mills are long gone, the community keeps its relaxed, grounded pace, offering lots of open space, nearby state forest land, and easy access to fishing and canoeing.
