About Wilson

Wilson is a Niagara County village on Lake Ontario where Twelve Mile Creek, also called the Tuscarora River, reaches the lake. Reuben Wilson settled here in 1810; his son Luther laid out the hamlet in 1827, established the harbor in 1846, and helped make Wilson a port of entry in 1848. The village was incorporated in 1858. Wilson Harbor later supported grain and fruit shipping, a shipyard, and schooner building, while orchards and vineyards still shape the surrounding town. Wilson is a New York lakeshore village with a harbor at its center and a founder’s family name running through the map.
