Windsor, IL (Village)

Windsor is the official name of the Mercer County village commonly known as New Windsor. The village formed in 1857 and incorporated in 1901. The post office and railroad adopted New Windsor to avoid confusion with another Illinois Windsor, and the railroad has since disappeared while the post office remains. Illinois Route 17 runs through the middle of town, giving Main Street the role of a through road and putting the village's history right in the daily map. The name may vary by sign or mailing address, but the municipal paperwork is clear: Village of Windsor.

Depot Park keeps the old rail memory tangible, with a horse hitching post, a bell tower once used to alert volunteer firefighters, memorials, a gazebo, and a train-crossing signal. The former depot now houses the Depot Bar & Grill. On the other side of town, Rodeo Park hosts the annual New Windsor Fair, Rodeo and Horse Show, while the ballpark brings in the Route 17 Country Market. The public library sits on East Main Street and Village Hall on North Third Avenue. New Windsor reads as a village where the official name, the old railroad name, and the current civic calendar all share one small Illinois map.
