The town traces its roots back to the 1830s, when Townsend Winters planted a large apple orchard across 400 acres, earning the area its original name, Apple Grove. By the time it was officially incorporated as Winterstown in 1871, the settlement had grown into a lively crossroads with general stores, a hotel, and a blacksmith shop. Those early storefronts have since transitioned into private homes, but the borough keeps its historic rural character alive through its active volunteer fire company, quiet streets, and deep community pride.
