Wolcottville, IN

Wolcottville is an Indiana town divided between Noble and LaGrange counties, with 1,004 residents in the 2020 census. The town covers about a square mile around the North Branch of the Elkhart River and the lakes that ring the community, including Witmer Lake. Lakeland School Corporation operates Wolcott Mills School on Myers Street, and the old Wabash Railroad corridor remains part of the transportation map. Corn and soybean fields begin quickly beyond the town streets, while summer cottages bring another seasonal layer to the lakes.

George Wolcott arrived in 1837, built a sawmill powered by the North Branch, and drew a settlement around it. Wolcottville was officially platted in 1849, keeping the founder’s name after the mills disappeared. The town’s current community website is also promoting a planned 17-mile Hawpatch Trail along the old Wabash corridor, connecting Wolcottville with Topeka and Millersburg. Town Hall and the volunteer fire department sit alongside the school, lake roads, and small businesses that carry daily routines.
