Woodbine, NJ

Woodbine is a Cape May County borough in South Jersey, the kind of inland Cape May place that feels separate from the shore towns even though Ocean City is the nearby metro center. The 2020 census counted 2,128 residents. It was incorporated in 1903 from parts of Dennis Township, and its most distinctive early chapter began with the Baron de Hirsch Jewish Agricultural College, which opened here in 1894. That agricultural-college story still gives Woodbine its own texture. Stockton University's Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage sits in the former Woodbine Brotherhood Synagogue, while local school and borough streets carry the town's later chapters.

The community is close enough to Cape May County's shore economy for day-to-day ties, but its center is shaped more by farm history, immigrant settlement, and the preserved buildings around Washington Avenue. Woodbine is a small South Jersey borough with a very specific backstory and a name that belongs to the mainland side of the county.
