Woodland Hills, KY

Woodland Hills is a home-rule city in eastern Jefferson County, an independent municipal pocket entirely surrounded by Middletown and tied to the Louisville metro. Founded in 1962, it has its own city government while Middletown wraps around it and Louisville supplies the metro-scale connections. Interstate 64 and the Gene Snyder Freeway form the larger road frame nearby, making the city's boundaries more important to its orientation than a traditional downtown. Most daily trips still run through Middletown and the nearby Louisville metro road network.

Hardy Brinly Park gives the city its clearest common address. The seven-acre green space includes a gazebo, trails, playground, and seasonal events such as Summer Fest and Winterfest; a new playground was installed in 2025. City notices, park events, and Middletown's surrounding services make up much of the everyday civic map for Woodland Hills. The local clue is its municipal shape: a small city inside another city, with a park acting as the shared gathering ground.
