Woodsfield, OH

Woodsfield was founded in 1813 as the seat of newly formed Monroe County and officially selected as the county seat in 1815. The village took its name from Archibald Woods, who owned the site before the town was laid out. That beginning still gives Woodsfield a clear county-seat shape: courthouse work, village streets, and schools serving a wide rural district. The Switzerland of Ohio Local School District covers a large area, while Belmont College adds a college connection to the village. Woodsfield sits about 30 miles northeast of Marietta.
