Woodsville, NH

Woodsville sits right where the Ammonoosuc River meets the Connecticut River, giving this corner of Haverhill a great setting directly along the Vermont border. With around 1,400 residents, the village got its start around 19th-century sawmills and timber operations before blossoming into a busy river community. Today, that waterside perch gives the area a relaxed feel, with tree-lined streets, mountain backdrops, and easy access to both quiet nature and everyday necessities.

When the railroad arrived in the 1850s, Woodsville quickly expanded into the area's main commercial stop, leaving behind a charming mix of Victorian architecture, storefronts, and cozy neighborhoods. It still functions as Haverhill's practical downtown center, with grocery stores, local dining, and daily services within a short drive. Having Wells River, Vermont, right across the bridge gives locals the best of two states, making Woodsville a convenient and grounded home base in the Upper Valley.
