Worthington, IN

Worthington is a town in Jefferson Township, Greene County, with its own post office, library, town park, and a place in the White River Valley school community. The post office opened in 1850, and the town took its name from Worthington, Ohio. That name is one small reminder of how nineteenth-century Indiana communities borrowed familiar names while building their own local centers around farms, churches, stores, schools, and county roads.

Worthington Elementary sits on West Main Street, and White River Valley’s middle and high school campuses carry older students into the wider district. The school system, Worthington-Jefferson Township Public Library, town offices, churches, local businesses, and nearby farms provide much of the town’s social and practical framework. Bloomington and other Greene County communities broaden the options for work, shopping, and health care, but daily life stays tied to school events, library programs, park time, and the steady movement along State Road 54. Worthington is small in size and broad in the rural connections around it.
