Wrightstown, NJ

Wrightstown is a Burlington County borough in New Jersey, incorporated in 1918 from portions of North Hanover and New Hanover townships. The borough was named for early settler John Wright, who contributed land for the settlement. Its streets sit beside McGuire Air Force Base and Fort Dix, now part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, so military land and local neighborhoods share the same map. Wrightstown is also one of the South Jersey communities within the Pinelands National Reserve.

The New Hanover Township School District serves Wrightstown students through eighth grade, with older students connected to Bordentown Regional High School. The military presence began nearby with Camp Dix in 1917 and McGuire’s earlier airfield history, bringing training grounds, aircraft, and defense work into the surrounding countryside. Wrightstown remains a small borough with farms and residential streets, but the base gives it a regional scale that reaches well beyond its boundaries. Its civic story is a blend of a 1918 borough, a school district shared across township lines, and one of the country’s largest military installations.
