About Wyocena
Wyocena is a Columbia County village inside the Town of Wyocena, positioned on the roads between Poynette, Portage, and Columbus. Wisconsin 16 is the east-west spine, and Wisconsin 22 gives the village a north-south connection through the county. The roads matter because Wyocena serves the surrounding farm country; today Grande Cheese is the village's largest business, with employees drawn from Wyocena and nearby communities. The village also houses the Columbia County Highway shop and county care facility, so local work includes food production and county services alongside the town's other daily businesses.
The community's most remembered recent event came on April 25, 2008, when a tornado tore through Wyocena and destroyed several homes before weakening east of town. Recovery sits alongside ordinary routines at the Wyocena Community Center, where the library and Helping Hands Food Pantry share space. That mix gives Wyocena a practical local map: industrial work near the village, county operations close by, and civic services concentrated around Dodge Street. The memorable part of Wyocena is the overlap between the factory, the county facilities, and a community center that keeps everyday services in one place.
