Yaphank, NY

Yaphank is a historic hamlet and census-designated place in the southern part of the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York. Bisected by the Carmans River, where early developer John Homan built mills in the mid-eighteenth century, the community of approximately 6,900 is served primarily by the Longwood Central School District. During the 1930s, the hamlet was historically notable as the site of Camp Siegfried, a prominent gathering place for pro-Nazi rallies.
