Yorktown, TX

Yorktown is a DeWitt County city founded in 1848 as a way station on the Old Indianola Trail. The trail connection came first; the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad arrived in 1886, and farming, ranching, and later oil and gas gave the town additional work. Its early population included German, Czech, Polish, Mexican, Spanish, Black, and American settlers, a mix recorded on the city's historical marker. State Highways 72 and 119 still cross at Yorktown's edge, keeping the old way-station logic visible. Yorktown is a South Texas town whose map carries trail, rail, ranch, and many immigrant stories.
