Yorkville, OH

Yorkville sits along the Ohio River in Belmont and Jefferson counties, a small village whose county line runs through a region once built on coal, river shipping, and manufacturing. A post office opened here in 1867, and the settlement began as a mining community. The river put Yorkville into a larger industrial map, connecting nearby towns, rail lines, barges, and plants along the Ohio Valley. The river also keeps the village tied to the working geography of the Upper Ohio Valley.

Today, Buckeye Local School District serves Yorkville students, while the village remains part of the connected river communities around Tiltonsville, Rayland, Steubenville, and Wheeling. Recent regional planning treats Yorkville, Tiltonsville, and Rayland as a shared transportation and history corridor, with old industrial sites and river access shaping the present landscape. The mines are no longer active, but the village still carries the physical marks of that era: broad river views, working roads, older homes, and the steep hills that rise behind the Ohio.
