About Yutan

Yutan is a Saunders County city along Upper Clear Creek, with the 2020 census counting 1,347 residents. It began as Clear Creek, a town platted in 1876 when the Omaha and Republican Valley Railroad reached the site, then took the name Yutan in 1884 for Ietan, an Otoe chief associated with the area. The railroad is still part of the town's basic shape: a small Nebraska community built where a line and a creek made a natural stop. Yutan's current map runs through Vine Street, the city office, schools, utility works, parks, and Itan baseball field.

The town's old German and Swiss settler history is still visible in church records and anniversary booklets, while Upper Clear Creek keeps the place tied to the surrounding farmland. Recent town work has focused on zoning, storm drainage, utilities, and the edge between established blocks and open ground. Yutan's local scoop is a Nebraska town whose name changed, but whose creek-and-railroad setting still does the organizing.
