Ackerly is a city in Dawson and Martin Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The 2020 census counted 264 residents. The Martin county portion of Ackerly is part of the Midland-Odessa metropolitan area. The town was established in 1923 and named for the town founder Paul Ackerly. That mix gives Ackerly a clear local shape within Texas, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. In 1995, a local discovered the Ackerly meteorite while plowing his cotton field.
