Ajo, AZ

Ajo is an unincorporated census-designated place in Pima County, Arizona, set within the scenic Little Ajo Mountains of the Sonoran Desert. Positioned along State Route 85 approximately forty-three miles north of the Mexican border, the community serves as the closest gateway to the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The town, whose Spanish name translates to garlic, has developed a diverse community that includes retirees and border security personnel. Local public education is provided by the Ajo Unified School District.
