About Amityville
Amityville is a village on Long Island's South Shore, served by the Amityville Union Free School District. Huntington settlers first visited the area in 1653 because of its salt hay, which was valuable as animal fodder. The Lauder Museum, operated by the Amityville Historical Society, keeps that older village history visible. Amityville is also widely known for its haunted-house reputation, but day to day it is a compact waterfront-adjacent village with schools, local shops, and commuter access.
