Arivaca Junction, AZ

Arivaca Junction is a census-designated place in southern Pima County, at about 3,140 feet in the high-desert corridor south of Green Valley and east of Arivaca. The 2020 census counted 970 residents. Arivaca Junction and Amado form a rural community along Interstate 19, with working cattle ranches and public conservation areas around them. Arivaca Road heads west from the I-19 corridor toward Arivaca and the Altar Valley, so the name still works as a geographic clue.

The area’s present-day services are organized across the wider Arivaca Junction/Amado area instead of around a municipal government. There are no county-owned or county-operated facilities in the area, but Community Development Block Grant money supports the Amado Youth Center and its programming. Preschool scholarships help children ages three to five attend Sopori Elementary. That arrangement makes the junction a place defined by regional connections: Interstate 19 for the north–south line, Arivaca Road for the westward ranch and conservation landscape, and youth, school, and county programs shared with nearby settlements.
