Barre is a town in Washington County, Vermont, that almost completely surrounds the separate city of Barre. Chartered in 1780 as Wildersburgh and renamed in 1793, the community of approximately 8,412 is historically famous as the Granite Center of the World. Public elementary education is served by the Barre Town Middle and Elementary School.
