Bear River City, UT

Bear River City is a Box Elder County city on the broad Bear River plain, north of Brigham City and close to the Idaho line. The 2020 census counted 877 residents. Settlers from Brigham City arrived in 1866, and the nearby river supplied the name as well as the town's agricultural setting. Bear River City kept its city status under state law even after the minimum population requirement rose, which is one of those quirky Utah details locals know about their place. The pioneer-era origin still shows up in the way the town talks about itself.

The town park does a lot of work for a community this size: it holds playing fields, a playground, a small rodeo arena, an outdoor stage, and the restored pioneer log cabin museum. Box Elder School District's local school history reaches back to a six-room elementary school built in 1912. Bear River City's local scoop is a farming city where the park doubles as museum grounds, rodeo grounds, and the nearest thing to a town square.
