Bear Valley CDP (Alpine County), CA

Bear Valley is the Alpine County community gathered around Highway 4, Lake Alpine, and Bear Valley Mountain Resort in California's high Sierra. It sits near 7,000 feet on south-facing slopes above the Stanislaus River headwaters, with Stanislaus National Forest surrounding the neighborhoods. Highway 4 is a National Scenic Byway and the main link through the valley; the pass can close in winter, so the road is part of the local calendar as much as the resort is.

Modern Bear Valley took shape in stages.
