About Black Eagle

Black Eagle sits on the Missouri River just northeast of Great Falls, beside the falls and dam that gave the community its name. The CDP grew from an industrial setting: early smelters and refineries led to the nickname “Little Chicago,” and the river powered the work that made this bend of the Missouri important. Great Falls now surrounds Black Eagle, but the riverfront, dam, and industrial buildings keep the community’s original map visible.

Black Eagle Park, the volunteer fire department, the Black Eagle Dam area, and nearby Giant Springs State Park shape present-day life. Giant Springs is one of the country’s largest freshwater springs, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks maintains the park’s trails, river access, programs, and seasonal events. NorthWestern Energy’s hydro facilities and the old industrial corridor remain part of the working landscape, while Great Falls supplies city-scale services and jobs. Black Eagle’s local scoop is the overlap of industrial memory and river recreation: a Great Falls suburb whose name still points straight to a Missouri River fall.
