About Burlington
Burlington is a small Kane County village west of the Fox Valley’s larger suburban centers, with a compact downtown near Plank Road and Burlington Road. Andrew Pingree platted the settlement in 1851, and the village incorporated in 1990. Outside the central streets, the view opens into horse properties, cornfields, and the Lily Lake area, giving Burlington a rural edge even as the Chicago region presses closer. Local manufacturing also has a place in the story, with plastics companies operating in the village since the early 1990s.
School District 301 puts several of the area’s daily destinations in and around Burlington. Central High School, Central Middle School, Howard B. Thomas Grade School, and Lily Lake Grade School serve students across the district, while roads connect the village to Hampshire, Elgin, and neighboring Kane County communities. Burlington’s scale is modest, but its map holds two worlds together: a village center with local businesses and civic services, and broad agricultural land that keeps the Fox Valley’s western edge in view.
