Cascade, MT

Cascade is a Cascade County town on the Missouri River between Great Falls and Helena. Montana Central Railway built a line along the river, and a service town grew around railroad workers; the place was first called Dodge before taking the Cascade name in 1887. Cascade incorporated in 1911, and the river-and-rail relationship still defines the map. Interstate 15 now carries the faster traffic, while the Missouri provides fishing access, floating routes, and the long view toward Tower Rock and the river canyon.

Cascade Public Schools serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade and also draws from nearby Ulm, Deep Creek, Craig, and Wolf Creek. Atkinson Park brings the town's everyday recreation into one spot with a pool, playground, skatepark, camping, and sports space. Tower Rock State Park sits downriver, a landmark used by Native peoples and later noted by the Lewis and Clark expedition. Cascade has a practical small-town rhythm—school, park, river, highway, and regional employment—plus the unusual advantage of having the Missouri right behind the town.
