About Catawba

Catawba is an unincorporated York County community southeast of Rock Hill, in the South Carolina Piedmont along the Catawba River. The community was once called Catawba Ridge, though tribal elders from the Catawba Indian Reservation continue to use that name. The Catawba Nation traces its ancestral lands along the river back at least 6,000 years, with farming, fishing, and river villages central to its story. Catawba is a place where a community name and a living tribal homeland meet on the same stretch of river.
