About Cattle Creek
Cattle Creek is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in southeastern Garfield County, in the Roaring Fork Valley. The 2020 census counted 662 residents. Colorado 82 follows the valley between Glenwood Springs, seven miles north, and Carbondale, six miles south, while Cattle Creek forms the southern edge of the CDP. The community covers 829 acres, all land, and takes its name from the stream that meets the Roaring Fork. The river, stream, and highway make the community's boundaries easy to read. With no incorporated town government, Cattle Creek's daily map is the highway, the river corridor, and the roads that climb into the surrounding slopes.
Glenwood Springs supplies the county-seat connection, and Carbondale is the other nearby center. The Rio Grande Trail runs through the wider valley, with access near Cattle Creek and Catherine Store Bridge. Cattle Creek is a small valley community defined by its position between two established towns, with a creek at its edge and the Roaring Fork moving through the landscape.
