Chinle, AZ

Located in northeastern Arizona, Chinle serves as the central hub for this part of the Navajo Nation, sitting right at the doorstep of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. With around 4,500 residents, the town is where surrounding rural areas come for essentials, housing the regional school district, a major healthcare center, grocery stores, and local government offices. Living here means having incredible red sandstone cliffs along your daily commute and a quiet, desert pace of life.

The town takes its name from the Navajo word Ch'íńlį́, meaning "where the water flows out," which marks the spot where stream water exits the canyon. Diné culture is central to everyday life, and many local families still tend ancestral farms and livestock inside the canyon floor. Today, Chinle supports steady jobs in education, healthcare, and tourism, creating a welcoming, close-knit community set against some of the most striking scenery in the Southwest.
