Darien, IL

Darien is a DuPage County city in the Chicago metropolitan area, with about twenty-two thousand residents. Its early settlers came from New England by way of the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes, giving the area roots in the broader nineteenth-century movement into northern Illinois. Today Darien is a mature suburb served in part by Hinsdale Township High School District 86, with Hinsdale South High School located in the city. A local oddity: Darien's city hall was once underground before being lifted in 1994.
