Woodridge, IL

Woodridge is a deliberately postwar village rather than a settlement that accumulated around a nineteenth-century downtown. Housing developer Albert Kaufman was chiefly responsible for its creation, and Woodridge incorporated on August 24, 1959, with fewer than 500 residents. Its name describes the wooded high ground above the East Branch of the DuPage River and the Des Plaines Valley. The village notes that most of its homes, businesses, and churches were built after the 1950s. A separate park district supplies much of Woodridge's shared calendar and recreation infrastructure. Its directory lists more than 30 parks, natural areas, lakes, gardens, and facilities. The Athletic Recreation Center contains a multi-court gym and a 40-by-60-yard indoor turf field used for leagues and rentals.

Cypress Cove operates seasonally with lap swimming and programmed activity; its larger facility inventory includes competition and program pools, a lazy river, spray play, and several slides. The district's 2026 schedule moved programming among neighborhood sites, with free concerts, outdoor movies, a fishing derby at Lake Harriet, and an all-village garage sale at Echo Point Park. Jubilee Point Park hosts the annual Woodridge Jubilee, whose 40th edition in 2025 combined carnival rides, live music, bingo, food, and a fishing derby. Woodridge Public Library adds year-round programs at Plaza Drive, including storytimes, book discussions, computer classes, an English-conversation group, senior game sessions, and teen volunteer work.
