Dayville, CT

Dayville is a census-designated place in northeastern Killingly, Windham County, on the east side of the Fivemile River. Interstate 395 passes along the east side, and Routes 12 and 101 meet near the village's commercial center. Dayville grew around mills along the Five Mile River and gained a railroad connection in 1840; the mills shaped its streets, worker housing, and regional trade.

Dayville's center includes shopping plazas, warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing around Routes 12 and 101 and I-395. The town's industrial park includes a large Frito-Lay plant, and former mill neighborhoods retain nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century frame homes. Dayville is one of Killingly's two commercial centers, alongside Danielson, so the CDP functions as a working village within the larger town. The river, highway interchange, industrial park, and surviving mill housing all sit within the same local geography. The fire district, retail corridor, and industrial park make Dayville a place where older mill geography continues to organize current work, errands, and emergency service across the town.
