Delta, PA

Delta is a York County borough near the Maryland line, incorporated in 1880 and built into a 19th-century mercantile stop on the Maryland-Pennsylvania Railroad between Baltimore and York. Scottish and Irish settlers came early; later, slate and green-marble quarries drew Welsh workers whose music became part of the town's local culture. Delta sits in the Peach Bottom Slate Region, so the building material is not just geological background—slate shows up in roofs, foundations, sidewalks, and the older street face.

Main Street is the clearest visual cue: the borough says its full length is on the National Register, and the Delta Historic District was listed in 1983. Welsh singing festivals return twice a year, alongside heritage festivals, fire-company parades, and fairs; South Eastern School District serves the surrounding school map. Delta's local shorthand is a small border borough with a railroad past, a Welsh thread, and enough slate underfoot and overhead to make the old industry visible. The old material still sets the tone of the streets.
