Dodgingtown, CT

Dodgingtown is a census-designated place on Newtown's west side, right at the Bethel border. Route 302 passes through its center; on the western approach it is Dodgingtown Road, then continues into Newtown toward the town center. The 2020 census counted 380 residents. The CDP sits inside the Town of Newtown, so its municipal services and larger civic map run through the town rather than a separate village hall. The town line is the key boundary: Route 302 changes name and function as it crosses between the two towns.

What's distinctive is the older settlement pattern behind the name. Newtown's historical society treats Dodgingtown, Hattertown, Lake George, and Head O'Meadow as surviving names from the town's colonial proprietors and agricultural past. Today Route 302 is the practical spine, linking homes, farms, and wooded sections to Bethel and central Newtown. Dodgingtown keeps its own local name and road identity inside the broader town network, a pattern that still makes sense when you follow the route west from Newtown.
